– As seen on PBS – Filmed in 2009, this documentary follows four students and their families on their journey to become bilingual through Mandarin, Cantonese, and Spanish language immersion programs in San Francisco Unified School District.  As their educational adventure unfolds, the film shows how learning a second language transforms these students’ sense of self, their families, and their communities. In a time of globalization and changing demographics, the film explores what it means to be a global citizen and addresses arguments for and against bilingual education at a time when 31 states have “English Only” laws. Film Length: 60 minutes.  Spanish or Mandarin subtitles available for alternate screenings.
Following the film, we will have a general discussion and explore questions that parents have regarding the Mandarin Immersion program at College Park Elementary School.
