Thanks to Bill Kwong of Crystal Asian Adventures and Friends of Mandarin Scholars (FMS) for organizing the inaugural China Trip for families in the San Mateo Foster City School District (SMFCSD) Mandarin Program.  Initially, we targeted students in grades 5 & up but we decided to open it up to siblings as well to accommodate the 5 families that were able to participate in the trip for the first year.

  • Early afternoon arrival followed by quick visit to the Beijing Zoo
  • Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City
  • Rickshaw ride to local hutong
  • “Legend of Kung Fu” show
  • Mutianyu Village & The Great Wall
  • Summer Palace

October 17-21, 2015      Xi’an

  • Chinese classes and home visits with host families from William’s English School
  • Cultural exchange with students from Hòuzaimén Elementary School
  • Xi’an City Wall
  • Terra Cotta Museum
  • Muslim Quarter
  • Wild Goose Pagoda

October 21-24, 2015     Shanghai

  • Old Shanghai & the Yu Garden, Tour of Oriental Pearl Tower and The Bund
  • Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple, Tianzifang Artist Colony, Acrobatic show
  • Zhujiajiao Water Town, followed by an afternoon at Chenxu Xiaoxue, a local school serving the children of migrant workers
  • Dimsum at Din Tai Fung and visit to the Children’s Palace, followed by overnight flight back to the USA
